The 50 best restaurants in the world awards were last night and El Bulli was again at the top. My favourite critic Jay Rayner did a lovely video from the ceremony.

Britain's Got Talent

I am pretty sure everyone has now seen Susan Boyle sing from last week, it has been viewed a crazy 100 million times on YouTube. But another good one this week. Shaheen Jafargholi - he is 12 and is amazing as well. Also watching Simon start out as a jerk and just get schooled for being a jerk was great.

Guess where I live?

Woohoo! Congratulations! Elvis is getting hitched!

Travis and Ellen are engaged! Many best wishes to you both.

Chianti, anyone?

This is just an idea at this point, but I wanted to see if anyone might be interested in a group trip to Tuscany?  A few years ago, we took a trip with my family and rented two villas on a hillside vineyard in Chianti.  It's a great spot, about 20 minutes south of Florence, and convenient to visit Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Montepulciano, Montalcino, etc.  I would love to go back and thought it would be a fun place to go with friends.  One of the villas has a beautiful terrace overlooking the vineyard and we cooked dinners many nights and ate out on the terrace.  That villa has 2 bedrooms plus a sleeper sofa; the second villa has 3 bedrooms (one with twin beds) and I think also a sleeper sofa.  You can rent one or both.  If you're interested, take a look:

Last time we rented directly through the owners, so we got a discount off the advertised rates.  Thoughts, anyone?  Meredith, have you had too much of Italy?  I'm thinking maybe of October sometime, but am open to other suggestions!

So the clocks finally sprung forward on sunday this week and my god! it has changed my life. The sun doesn't set now until after 7:30. Today I left work and was able to walk home the whole way with it still being light out and I even took a detour and walked along the canal and saw a swan. It was great. All the trees have flowers, it is really really nice here now. Now I just need to erase from my memory the November - February and this place would be awesome.

Don't be surprised if one of you gets this

Can we talk about how good Adam Lambert was last night? I love "Tracks of my Tears," and I love his tender, tender version.

We all miss you and here is a little ode to Trader Joes. Which I do really miss sometimes.

Twitter - My second post

muertemaria's picture

My original post about twitter is here but just gives you the basics.

Twitter is a microblogging tool so that you have 140 characters to tell people "What are you doing?" it is kind of like the status updates on Facebook except a little more public and has somewhat of a different audience since anyone can see you twitter update and only your friends can see your status update.

So what is the deal with the following? When you sign up for an account - you basically are creating your own blog like you do on MB.com and all your updates show up on your page like mine.  The way that other people get updates on what you are doing is to "follow" you. When they follow you, your updates will then show up on their page so that they can see what you are doing as well. You need to follow other people to see what they are doing without having to go to each person's individual page. That would just be a pain in the a$$ if you had to click on everyone's individual page to see what they are doing, which is why you Follow them so that it comes to you.

Dear Mere,

I need a twitter lesson and you seem to be the master. I have signed up for a few twitter threads, mostly because we want to start twittering at work and I wanted to see how it works. Can I get emails or texts of twitter updates or do I have to contantly check my twitter account on the website? That seems silly. Please explain to your digitally inferior friend.
