Twitter - My second post

muertemaria's picture

My original post about twitter is here but just gives you the basics.

Twitter is a microblogging tool so that you have 140 characters to tell people "What are you doing?" it is kind of like the status updates on Facebook except a little more public and has somewhat of a different audience since anyone can see you twitter update and only your friends can see your status update.

So what is the deal with the following? When you sign up for an account - you basically are creating your own blog like you do on and all your updates show up on your page like mine.  The way that other people get updates on what you are doing is to "follow" you. When they follow you, your updates will then show up on their page so that they can see what you are doing as well. You need to follow other people to see what they are doing without having to go to each person's individual page. That would just be a pain in the a$$ if you had to click on everyone's individual page to see what they are doing, which is why you Follow them so that it comes to you.

Better check your Ipod

If you are a big fan of Lil' Wayne - You might be stupid.

"A California Tech student has matched music preferences to US high school marks, and come up with correlations that will send brainiacs scurrying for their iPods.

PhD student Virgil Griffith’s “somewhat unscientific” study showed the smartest students listened to Beethoven, Counting Crows and Sufjan Stevens. Radiohead and Ben Folds Five also appealed to big brains."

Well I don't like Lil Wyane but my Love of Tom Petty puts me at about 1080.

Got My Wii

muertemaria's picture

My excuse for not posting anything meaningful today is twofold:

1 - I am getting a cold
2 - I got my Wii today and I decided to do ski-jumping on the Wii instead (Professional!)
So you get - Lex Luthor Bailout courtesy of Funny or Die. Starring - Jon Hamm.

Good Humored City Council

Stupid work is getting in the way of me posting anything meaningful, so instead you get childish humor from me. This is a city council meeting in Ohio and shenanigans ensue.

Randomness for a tuesday

I hope all you DC people have been able to dig yourself out of the snow and go back to work. Today is again cloudy and rainy in London. I found a new quiz - How likely are you to have a tapeworm - I am 34%

What are your chances of getting a tapeworm?

The Crisis of Credit Visualized

muertemaria's picture

There are two things I like about this.

1 - It does a good job explaining visually what started the situation we are in

2 - I am so impressed with Jonathan Jarvis' thesis on exploring the use of new media to make sense of complex issues

While it is not going to get me to watch

Chelsea Hightower & Dimitri & Layce from SYTYCD is now one of the dancers on Dancing with the Stars. Glad the turn on the good show got her work on a mediocre show.

Weekend in Paris

Paris VacationMy plan for 2009 while here is that once a month I end up going somewhere in europe where I haven't been before. February starts the trend and we started easy with Paris. I got a great deal from on the eurostar and hotel so I took 3 days in Paris. It was mostly rainy and freezing, but I got a little bit of the city (not even close to enough) and now I can say I at least have seen some of Paris.

Day 1 - I took the eurostar down to Paris, which is great because 1 - It is one stop from my house and 2 - It drops you right in the middle of Paris so you can take the metro to where you need to go.

Of course I start off getting off the metro and walking exactly the wrong direction to my hotel, but after about 15 minutes of walking around I found it.  dropped off my stuff and went back out.

If they just stayed little like this

I would totally have a pig for a pet. This video is just too adorable to handle. I love it. Of course from Cute Overload.

30 Rock - Just keeps getting better

muertemaria's picture

A few days late but OMG! 30 Rock just keeps getting better. The telenovela - Jon Hamm as the perfect man. I have to say besides It's Always Sunny this is the only show I end up laughing until tears.

Pediatric Restless Leg Syndrome. He looks like a cartoon Pilot.

It can only get better and at least today is pretty

The summer I moved here it ended up being pretty cold and only really got to 65 all summer instead of the 80-90 that I experienced the last summer I was in London. The fall was normal but this winter was colder then it has been in a while and today it snowed more then it has in 18 years. All buses are closed and most of the tube is shut down. So I walked around my neighborhood and got some great photos of the snow. I take this as a turning point while the weather is cold, it is really pretty.

Culinary Journey through Hell

muertemaria's picture

Someone took a flight on Virgin from Mumbai to London and they sent this note (via the telegraph) about their experience. It is a great read an excerpt:

"Ironically, by the end of the flight I would have gladly paid over a thousand rupees for a single biscuit following the culinary journey of hell I was subjected to at the hands of your corporation...

...Now I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking it’s more of that Baaji custard. I admit I thought the same too, but no. It’s mustard Richard. MUSTARD. More mustard than any man could consume in a month. On the left we have a piece of broccoli and some peppers in a brown glue-like oil and on the right the chef had prepared some mashed potato. The potato masher had obviously broken and so it was decided the next best thing would be to pass the potatoes through the digestive tract of a bird."

Read the whole letter. Richard Branson actually responded in the end.

I have been in two theatre's in the past few weeks here one a movie theatre and one a west end show. There are some similarities and some differences.

-There is always at least one light left on in the theatre and I seem to always have a seat underneathe it. It is really annoying

- The seats are from 1985 at the latest and very small and squished together

So I saw Twilight again and last night I saw Avenue Q. I liked both. The main girl in Avenue Q was a really great singer and she was a pleasure to watch not only her but her puppet. If you haven't seen it yet, I would suggest it as a show to see. Puppets are funny.
